Food Hub Key Performance Indicators

Moderated by a food hub business analyst, two hubs show how they are solving their business problems using KPIs.

Description

Many hubs have begun using key performance indicators (KPIs) to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of their unique businesses. KPIs are quantifiable measures used to evaluate the success of an organization, employee, etc., in meeting objectives for performance. In this webinar you’ll hear from two different hubs who have leveraged their financial data to create and track their own KPIs. Although their markets and models are different (one hub sells wholesale, one direct to consumers), by actively monitoring and analyzing their financial data, they each have increased their efficiency, and thus their bottom lines. As every hardworking food hub operator knows, running a hub is an incredibly complicated endeavor. 

Moderated by a food hub business analyst, these hubs will take you through how they are solving their business problems using KPIs. Be warned: after seeing the power of accurate recordkeeping, you may be spending much more quality time with your accountant, and your books!

Erin PirroErin Pirro

Erin Pirro has been helping farmers large and small make their businesses run better since 2001.  As a Certified Agricultural Consultant for Farm Credit East with a background in agricultural economics, Erin's focus is on benchmarking and profitability improvement because sustainability means economics, too! 

Grace Mandarano

Grace MandaranoGrace Mandarano is a first-generation Canadian. Both her parents come from farming families in Southern Italy. Throughout her childhood she heard stories of how, as a family and a community, her relatives would work their farms, grow their food, and rear their animals. The connection to their food was undeniable and cherished. 100km Foods Inc. has become for her a re-establishment of that vital connection to food: where it comes from, how it is grown, and how the greater community benefits and thrives from access to good, clean food.


Since its inception in 2008, 100km Foods has purchased more than $34M worth of local food from more than 100 producers across Ontario to serve 450+ restaurant and foodservice customers in Toronto and surrounding areas. She considers financial sustainability and authenticity to be key ingredients to running a successful social enterprise and hopes that 100km Foods can be a conduit to real change in Ontario’s food systems.

 

Courtney Tellefsen

Courtney TellefsenCourtney Tellefsen is the founder/CEO of The Produce Box. She set out 11 years ago on a mission to support local farmers and help change our food system ... one table at a time.  After starting The Produce Box in her garage working with 1 farmer and delivering boxes of fresh fruits & veggies to 25 of her neighbors....Today  her company has 11,000 members across just the state of NC purchasing more than 2 million pounds of local produce each year using an army of 250 stay-at-home moms and dads. 
She's also teaching groups in other states how to run similar business models.All of this while trying to survive life with two teenagers in the house!

Craig Smith

Craig Smith

Craig Smith was raised in a small farming community in eastern North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina and began his working career in Commercial Banking. He left banking after 19 years and became the CFO of a client’s distribution company covering the southeastern USA and his manufacturing companies in North and South Carolina. After industry changes, ownership opted to liquidate the companies and Craig began consulting small and mid-size companies in financial planning and analysis, strategic planning and performance data. 


He met Courtney and The Produce Box through the donation program of the company and a non-profit he was involved, and now serves as Director of Finances and Human Resources.
